July 28, 1953- November 14, 2019

Carole Marie Chataigne passed away on November 14, 2019 after a four-year battle with breast cancer. Born in Pétion-Ville, Haiti, Carole moved to Evanston, Illinois in her teens before settling in Barlett, IL thirty-six years ago.

During her nearly 30 year nursing career, she most recently worked at St. Joseph in Elgin and was blessed to have wonderful and fun coworkers, many of which she considered her extended family.

With a passion for giving back to her homeland, she sponsored Haitian girls through nursing school who have gone on to work throughout the world. She was a woman of strong faith and an active member at St. Thomas in Naperville, St. Mary’s in Huntley and St. Hugh In Elgin, working as a translator, missionary, and choir member. In her endeavors to achieve tranquility, she enjoyed spending time at her cabin and working in her garden.

In addition to being an inspiration for so many, Carole was a loving wife, mother and sister. She is survived by her husband of 43 years (Ducamond), daughter (Melissa Chataigne Stuart), son-in-law (Robin Stuart) and siblings (Pierre Couloute, George Couloute, Philip Couloute, Reginald Couloute). Preceded by parents (Pierre and Genevieve Couloute), siblings (Margret Albert, Patrick & Lesley Couloute) and daughter (Jennifer Chataigne).

A visitation will be held Friday, November 22nd from 4-8pm at Countryside Funeral home, 950 S Bartlett Rd, Bartlett, IL 60103. The celebration will continue on Saturday, November 23rd at 10:15 am at Countryside with a procession to Resurrection Catholic Church, 30W350 Army Trail Rd, Wayne, IL 60184. Mass at 11. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions to St. Mary Haitian Ministry would be appreciated. Please send checks to 10307 Dundee Rd., Huntley, IL 60142

Please join us for a Celebration of Life Memorial mass on Sunday November 24th at St. Hugh Episcopal Church in Elgin, IL. The church is located at 36W957 Highland Ave (South East) of Randall Rd and Highland Ave).

My dearest Cuz, today you went to your final resting place. I am so sad to know that I cant speak to you directly, I won't hear your voice. I know however that I am never the same, no one is ever the same after being in your presence. I see all these pictures of you and all I see is God's gift to me, to us all. Test my beautiful cuz, sleep well. Well done here! You earned your wings.
I will always miss you. I will always remember you. I will always appreciate you, us.
I will always love you Cuz,
Cousin Nadege Guillaume-Todd

Carole, I will surely miss your phone calls and your texts. I will keep our beautiful conversations about life and the laughs we had every time we were together at a party, tucked deep inside my heart. Your love for people could be seen in your beautiful eyes and even more so in your beautiful smile. A woman with a loving heart, love for her family and friends, most of all her love for our Lord was powerful! A Blessing to have called you my friend, I’ll never forget you Carole! Rest now, with our Lord whom you Loved so much! We shall meet again!
Love, Your friend, Lisa Mustari
