Obituary for Carole Chataigne

July 28, 1953- November 14, 2019

Carole Marie Chataigne passed away on November 14, 2019 after a four-year battle with breast cancer. Born in Pétion-Ville, Haiti, Carole moved to Evanston, Illinois in her teens before settling in Barlett, IL thirty-six years ago.

During her nearly 30 year nursing career, she most recently worked at St. Joseph in Elgin and was blessed to have wonderful and fun coworkers, many of which she considered her extended family.

With a passion for giving back to her homeland, she sponsored Haitian girls through nursing school who have gone on to work throughout the world. She was a woman of strong faith and an active member at St. Thomas in Naperville, St. Mary’s in Huntley and St. Hugh In Elgin, working as a translator, missionary, and choir member. In her endeavors to achieve tranquility, she enjoyed spending time at her cabin and working in her garden.

In addition to being an inspiration for so many, Carole was a loving wife, mother and sister. She is survived by her husband of 43 years (Ducamond), daughter (Melissa Chataigne Stuart), son-in-law (Robin Stuart) and siblings (Pierre Couloute, George Couloute, Philip Couloute, Reginald Couloute). Preceded by parents (Pierre and Genevieve Couloute), siblings (Margret Albert, Patrick & Lesley Couloute) and daughter (Jennifer Chataigne).
