Obituary for Debra Hudkins (Paweleck)

“Please let me know what I can do because Debbie would have done that and more for me and my family.” While this is a direct quote from her good friend Todd, this was sentiment shared by all her friends and family when they were told of Debbie Hudkins unexpecting passing January 30th. Debra Lynn Hudkins passed away during the night in the home she shared with her husband of 37 years Terry.

Debbie loved her friends and family but unapologetically loved all her grandkids the best. Known as Gagie or Lady G she cherished all time spent with Myles, Lexi, Avery and Lucy. Whether they lived a few blocks away or hours she constantly checked on them and made sure each holiday was celebrated either in person or through a surprise Amazon package. She was incredibly excited for her next granddaughter CJ to be born and had already started buying presents for baby CJ and had mapped out what she needed and her plans for a Gagie-Lucy sleepover during baby CJ’s arrival.
While she loved all holidays, Thanksgiving was her favorite. All family and friends (regardless of if they old or new friends) were welcome over. Meal planning started weeks out and there was always enough food to feed a small army even if just a few people were expected. Evenings were spent sharing Black Friday Ads, making plans on how to conquer the best deals and in more recent years shopping online to get a start on Christmas shopping.

Debbie was the first of her family to go to college and instilled a passion for education and reading into her children. From an early age she instilled the idea that you can excel at both work and home and her children remember both her hard work but also showing up to every sporting event, play and church function humanely possible.
Debbie’s maiden name was Paweleck and she from that side of her family she inherited an inability to throw away anything with a slightly sentimental value. On top of the boxes of pictures, cards and other important keepsakes, Debbie took a new technological approach of keeping memoires by saving pictures of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews from social media on her computer as her way of remembering each of them regardless of how often everyone was able to see each other especially given the COVID pandemic. Going through all her saved memories will continue to allow her family and friends to remember the amazing person she was.

Debbie was preceded in death by her mother and father Carol and George Paweleck. She is remembered by her husband, Terrence Hudkins, sisters Jeannie (Mark) Skuran, Laurie Modaff, her brother George Paweleck, her children Brianna Lantz, Ryan (Emily Armstrong) Hudkins and Taryn (Steve) Heinz and most importantly her grandchildren Myles Hudkins, Lexi Armstrong, Avery Lantz and Lucy Heinz. She is also remembered by cousins many of whom she grew-up with and were more like brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.

A small ceremony and internment will be held at St. Michael Cemetery , 1185 W. Algonquin Road Palatine, IL on Friday February 11th at 2:00 pm. A memorial of life celebration will be held following at Chandler’s Restaurant 401 N Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg IL from 4:30pm-8pm.
