Obituary for Dennis Stewart

Dennis Dee Stewart of Streamwood, IL. passed away on November 17, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born November 10, 1938, in Elgin, IL.

Dennis was foremost a person who valued family. He would recount how he met the love of his life, Virginia when they worked together at Woolworths. They would marry and form a partnership filled with love and laughter until Virginia died in 2008.

Dennis and Virginia had seven children. He was a loving father and a welcoming man. He was thrilled when the family grew to include in-laws, who instantly became his family. As his family, they became subject to the same love and good-natured teasing reserved for his children. His grandchildren were his ultimate gift and endless joy to him.

Dennis used the GI bill to earn his BBA in Marketing from Northwestern University while working full-time and raising a family. He worked in the computer industry for many years, taking on many roles.

After retiring, he nourished his creative side. He became an actor performing in plays, commercials, small movie parts, and TV shows. In particular, he often portrayed Norman Thayer in community productions of “On Golden Pond.” His wit, humor, and whimsy amused his friends and family, and Facebook provided a platform for his musings regarding the absurdity of life and daily events. He could be counted on to give an embellished (a claim he would deny), humorous, and moving speech for special family events. Always a lifelong traveler, he continued traveling with his beloved Virginia, family, and friends.

Dennis is survived by his children Scott, Matthew (Mariana Revesz), Dennis Jr. (Cheryl), Laura (John) Weis, Lisa (Steve) Duncan, Christopher (LeighAnn), and Erin (Charles) Tiedje. He is also survived by his grandchildren Rebecca, Mason Weis, Hannah (Clark Jensen), Adam, Emily, Spencer Weis, Noah, Katelyn, Jacob, Gianmarco Luppi, Alejandro Luppi, Mary Tiedje, and Cole Thomas Tiedje. Also, surviving are his sisters, Deanna Jones Tyler, and Deloris Sanchez, and brother-in-law Michael (Kathleen) Morrison. Finally, he is survived by his favorite feline, Spanky.

Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Virginia (née Morrison), his parents Donald and Minnie Stewart, his brothers Donald Jr and David Stewart, his daughter-in-law Cyndi (Matthew) Stewart, and close family friend Stella Fung.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 27, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 S. Greenmeadows Blvd. Streamwood, IL. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 28, beginning at 11:00 am, also at Countryside. Interment will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd., Elgin, IL.
