Obituary for Deodoro Valdivia

“En el nombre se de dios.” It’s a statement he often said at the start of car trips, a gentle and quick prayer in Spanish which translates to “In the name of God (I go).” Deodoro Valdivia, 86, of Streamwood, IL passed away on Sunday November 6, 2022.

Deodoro is survived by his wife Silvia Valdivia, sons Javier (Elizabeth) and Erik Valdivia, and two grandchildren Ryan and Colin Valdivia. He is also survived by brother Jose (Bertha) and sisters Oliva, Angeles (Roland), and Blanca. He was preceded in passing by brothers Manuel, Gonzalo, and Juan, and sister Alicia.

He was the son of Gonzalo G. Valdivia and Angeles Gomez and immigrated to the United States in the 1960s, where he met Silvia and raised a family. A factory metal worker, Deodoro loved to work with his hands—whether it was building things, fixing cars, or playing guitar at family gatherings—he loved doing things for others. He also enjoyed his beers, shrimp cocktail and family games of poker. At the heart of it all was love for those around him. It is in the love that he shared with others that we find comfort in his passing, and hold onto the same love that endures forever.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 S. Green Meadows Blvd., Streamwood, IL (630) 289-8054.
