Obituary for Douglas Worrell

Doug Worrell, born Dec 16, 1952 in Quincy, Illinois, passed away after a lingering illness on March 30, 2022 in Hoffmann Estates, Illinois at the age of 69. Doug is survived by his brother Dean (Dorcie) Worrell of West Point, Illinois, his niece Bethany Worrell of Ann Arbor, Michigan and other extended family members. He was blessed with a wider community of friends and professionals who shared his life in many ways, and he will be missed by many as he had become an integral part of so many lives.

Doug graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA in chemistry in 1976, received his JD from John Marshall Law School, Chicago, in 1979. He was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1979 and has practiced law for 42 years.

Doug will be remembered as a dear and loving friend, but he was a Renaissance man with infinite curiosity and made a study of many disciplines. Beyond the world of law, he was highly involved in art – both in appreciation and as a painter, study of opera, camping, kayaking, all manner of computer tinkering, a high interest in national and world affairs, a special interest and love for New Orleans and a passionate affinity for Jack Russell Terriers, including his beloved Sherlock. Above all else, Doug had a zeal for sailing and often said he “was most happy when I’m on the water.”

Doug was a critical thinker in Christian Theology and was most recently a member of Poplar Creek Church in Bartlett, Illinois where he served in leadership. He shared a profound and intellectually engaged faith and has served in and for many churches and religious organizations.

No official services are being held at this time, but a Celebration of Life gathering is being planned for mid-May where his family will gather to reflect on the special relationships he enjoyed with so many of his friends, clients and colleagues. If you wish to be informed about plans for this event, please send an email with your contact information to DougWorrellCOL@gmail.com. He will be interred in the family cemetery in Chili, Illinois.
