I remember working at Streamwood Bowl with Joe on Saturdays and the junior league bowlers! The kids loved him and would ask him for one on one training. He even helped me with the way I bowled! He was such a great man and fun to be around. He always had a positive attitude and never let the small things get to him. He always tried his best to make those around him happy even if they were complete strangers.
I only knew Joe when I worked with him years ago. But it was such a pleasure to work side by side an amazing inspiration! He will never be forgotten! And forever loved by so many!
To the family during this time, I send my deepest condolences to you all during this unfortunate time. Between COVID-19 and social distancing and now more than ever a time to be with your loved ones, know that there is so much love not only from myself but many more that hope to share their memories about Joe with you. Sending healthy air hugs your way! You are all in my heart and I am thinking that you can find comfort during this difficult time.
All my love,
Janie Messler

So sorry to learn of the passing of our good friend, Joe. When Joe moved from Chicago to DesPlaines in 1960, he was my next door neighbor. Back in those days, his name was "Butch" to me, but when Joe reached the age of 13 he asked me, "Paul, could you call me Joe from now on, instead of Butch, and I complied. I have so many fond memories of Joe. We used to "rassle" in our backyards as kids. I think that inspired him to be a member of Maine West's wrestling team. Also, as kids we would go bowling quite often and that was extended to our 20s and 30s. I never anticipated Joe would become such a great bowler in his later years. Back in the day Joe would work on my cars when I had problems with them. I only saw Joe once in a stage play at St. Ansgar, Fiddler on the Roof, and I could not believe how great he was in a lead role. I wish I would have seen him in more plays. My condolences go out to Judy and her family. Please let me know when the memorial service will be held. If at all possible, Mary and I would like to be there at that time.

I worked with joe for 3 years, whenever I needed advice or just someone to talk to he was there to listen and help, when I first started working at streamwood bowl he never once judged me and would always be there to help, he would always talk about his motorcycle or talk about his past stories of pipefitting he would always have new stories to tell every monday I will miss him and his stories. When he coached for south elgin high bowlers he was always there teaching them how to better themselves to bowl he always looked out for the kids and whenever he could he would make sure the kids had their own bowling ball. He would always talk about bringing bowling balls home to fit right for the kids. He was a great mentor and friend.
