Obituary for Karen Brummel (Buckeridge)

Karen M. Brummel nee Buckeridge, 78 of South Elgin passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 16, 2019 after a courageous battle with Sezary Syndrome, a rare blood cancer, at Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence in Elk Grove Village, IL. She was born on January 29, 1941 in Chicago, IL to the late Roger and Marie Buckeridge and was married for 49 years to the love of her life, the late Richard “Dick” D. Brummel; loving mother of Richard (Irma) of Elgin, JoEllyn (Kevin) Wetzel of South Elgin, Scott (Kerri) Brummel of South Elgin and Debra (Jim Nutof) Barr of Longwood, FL; cherished grandmother of 12; proud great grandmother of 9, dear sister of the late James (Carolyn) Buckeridge, Janice (Tom) Balcer, Leanne (Al) Struss, Alice (Jerry) Prybycin; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Downers Grove High School, Class of 1959 and St. Charles School of Nursing in Aurora, Class of 1962. After spending 22 years as a devoted military wife, she enjoyed working as a labor and delivery nurse at Sherman Hospital, Elgin and retired as a prenatal nurse at Kane County Health Department. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially following their sporting events and enjoying the company of her nursing classmates and condo neighbors as well as her 20,000 step daily walking routine prior to her illness.

Visitation Thursday, November 21st, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home 95 S. Gilbert St. (at State St.). Visitation continues Friday, November 22nd, 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 215 St.Thomas More Dr., Elgin. Burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Elgin. Luncheon at Villa Olivia Country Club 1401 W Lake St., Bartlett, IL 60103 immediately following the burial.
