Obituary for Leigh Heflin

Leigh Heflin, loving husband, loving father of Schaumburg Township passed away in spring 2023 at the age of 87. He follows his wife, Kitty Heflin into Heaven. He leaves behind his daughter, Victoria, and two sons, Chris and Rob, along with several brothers and sisters, dozens of nieces and nephews, and a swarm of friends.

A lifelong catholic, Leigh helped to found the Parish of St. Ansgar, often working on projects to finish the interior of the church. He was a longtime member of the folk choir, a founding member of (and writer for) the St. Ansgar Players, member of the St. Ansgar Golf Club, and founding member (and longtime secretary) of the Northwest Writers Group. Leigh was a writer, singer, golfer, tap-dancer, vegetable gardener (especially tomatoes), and an avid black & white movie fan. The Army Corp of Engineers taught him to be a draftsman. He built his own telescope to see the stars (in the sky). He also worked for a contractor on a project for NASA during the Apollo missions to the moon. And, yet, his favorite place was home. He lived as though he had a song in his heart and love for his fellow Americans.

Leigh will be waked at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 S. Green Meadows Boulevard, Streamwood/Schaumburg Thursday June 1, 2023 from 4 pm to 8 pm. Friday 10:15am to St. Ansgar Church. Mass 11:00am. Inurnment Monday June 5 11:00am at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery. Information (630) 289-8054.
