Obituary for Margaret Dolan (Rippinger)

Margaret Toby Dolan, 86, of Schaumburg, IL passed away after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019. Margaret, daughter of Theodore and Gertrude Rippinger who proceeded her in death, was sister to the late Ross and to Debbie (Richard) Zimmerman; she was mother to the late Christopher Dardis, Kathleen (Mike) Dolan Baumer, Moira Dolan, Mimi Dolan, Noel (Jun) Adachi, and Lisa (Harold) Robinson; she was the delighted grandmother to Mark (Kim Kutner) Pruett, Jodi (Alex) Croft, Michie and Kazemi Adachi, Claire and Jacob Robinson, and Timone Dolan, and great-grandmother to Wren Pruett. Margaret was a teacher and spent the years prior to retirement at Lincoln Park High School helping pioneer the International Baccalaureate program there, heading the foreign language department. She spoke several languages, but French was her passion, because “if it was French, it was better!” She taught the joy of language to hundreds of students, mentored many young educators (including Mimi), and shared international travel with many exchange students over the years. She loved to sing, and did so even at the retirement home; she played piano and folk guitar, and was an accomplished artist. She loved solving crossword puzzles. She will be interred at Waldheim Cemetery at a private service with the family. Memorials may be made to the International Baccalaureate program at https://ibo.org/contact-the-ib/giving-to-the-ib/ or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation at www.michaeljfox.org/donate. She will be missed by those she loved, those she taught, those who cared for her, and those who knew her.
