Obituary for Margaret Royston (Beegan)

Margaret Mary Helen (nee Beegan) Royston passed away in her sleep on November 5th, 2020 in her Hanover Park home. She is survived by her daughter, Ciara Anne Royston (20), whom she treasured, as well as her adored siblings: Mary Kathleen (Katie) Beegan-Helt (Matthew), Daniel Joseph Beegan, and Therese Marie, “T”, Beegan. Maggie is preceded in death by her parents John T. Beegan (2000), Joanne E. Beegan (2010) and her younger brother John Joseph Beegan (1987).

Of her many interests, greatest among these was her love of cycling along the Illinois Prairie paths far and wide, often embarking on 100-mile rides. Frequently during her outings, she relished discovering craft brews and new pubs to visit. Maggie was also passionate about politics and equal rights for all. In particular, she was vociferous in her admiration for Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. While she herself was not religious, she was plainspoken in her respect for all faiths and beliefs. Among her other passions was her great love of hockey, and words fail in describing the enthusiasm she had for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Maggie worked bravely on the front line for a local grocer, seeking to protect both staff and clientele through her rigorous pronouncements and encouragement to abide by all safety protocols. Unfortunately, her employer ultimately did not support her forthright communications and concerns. As the COVID pandemic raged on, Maggie protected herself and her colleagues by gently educating all on the requirements for social interactions. Less obvious were pleading posts to the public about changing family shopping habits so that all would be further shielded from the reach of the virus.

Above all else, Maggie was the devoted mother to Ciara Anne whom she dreamed to life. Maggie dedicated her life to Ciara’s education and culturalization with trips to California museums, art exhibits, along with cultural shows and festivals. Maggie reveled in revealing different tastes and smells to Ciara, with visits to locally owned ethnic restaurants throughout her formative years. As a result, Ciara is a talented and uninhibited artist and culinary enthusiast.

Maggie touched many lives and while her unexpected passing will leave a void in all, she should be remembered for her passions and her devotion to her daughter and family.
