Marjorie E. ‘Maggie’ Gross, 68, Streamwood, IL, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 11, 2020, from natural causes at her home. She was born October 14, 1951, in Peoria, IL to the late Wayne P. and Ada (Hostetler) Gross. Maggie graduated from Lowpoint -Washburn High School in Washburn, IL and Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO. After earning her RN degree, she worked for Maple Lawn Homes in Eureka, IL. She then moved to Chattanooga, TN and worked in a hospital there. On return to Peoria, she was employed at Saint Frances Hospital, first working in the newborn nursery and then the NICU. In the early 1990’s, she moved to the Chicago area. There she worked for Marklund and later for home health agencies doing pediatric care. Regretfully, she retired from that work several years ago due to health issues.
Maggie loved her work and went the extra mile to give loving, competent care. She loved the companionship of her canine pets through the years. Always adopting from a rescue shelter, Maggie recently had older dogs and wanted to give them “the best years of their lives”. Her dream was to do bereavement counseling for those who have lost pets.
Preceding her in death, besides her parents, are a niece, Bonnie Ramer, sister-in-law Carol (Altes) Gross, and numerous canine companions. Maggie dearly loved her family and friends. Surviving are her brother John, Eureka, IL and sister Luanne (Steve) Ramer of Nappanee, IN. Also surviving are one great aunt, two nephews, four nieces, three grand-nephews, three grand-nieces and numerous cousins and friends. Her family wishes to thank her close friends, neighbors and cousins who gave her assistance in her latter days.
Due to COVID 19, there will be no services at this time. On line condolences and memories may be sent to www.countrysidefuneralhomes.com. Memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter.
