Obituary for Penelope "Penny" Klama

Penelope "Penny" Ann Klama, age 82, of Hanover Park, Illinois went to be with her Heavenly Father on January 18, 2024. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and cousin.

Penny was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1941 to the late George Francis and Inez Fox. She attended Sisters of Christian Charity/Mallinckrodt High School and Mundelein College.

Penny and her late husband Tony were blessed with 42 years of marriage. During that time, they loved to travel the world, and spent many winters in Mexico. As life-long Catholics, they were excited to visit the Vatican, and went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land to walk in the steps of Christ. No matter where they traveled, they hardly ever missed Sunday mass. Penny was an active parishioner of St. Ansgar’s Catholic Church, spearheading the Scrip Gift Card Fundraising effort for many years. She was instrumental in forming – and remained active - in the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary at St. Ansgar’s.

Penny was devoted to her family, and enjoyed having her children, grandchildren, and extended family around her at all times. She always welcomed everyone with open arms. She was creative and artistic. She loved learning new things from spinning wool to creating stained glass pieces and jewelry. She was an avid chef and collector of over 300 cookbooks. Penny was a bargain hunter, well-known by her family as a “clearance search junky”, and lovingly called, “Penny-wise, pound foolish”.

Penny is survived by her sister Frances (Dieter) Volinek; children Debra (Tim) Leahy, Kim Snider (Cliff Winchester), Linda Klama (Larry Lindsay), Raymond Kolk, Christopher Kolk, Steven Scheuren, Robert Klama, Kenneth Kolk; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony “Tony” Francis Klama; her parents George and Inez Fox; and her beloved son Anthony Keith Klama.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society and the Dementia Society of America.
