Obituary for Rhonda Arndt

Rhonda “Ronni” Sue Arndt (nee Gross)

Rhonda “Ronni” Sue Arndt (nee Gross) passed away on April 20, 2020 at age 73 at St. Alexis Hospital in Hoffman Estates, IL. Born April 24, 1946, in Chicago, she lived in Skokie and, since 1971, in Hanover Park, Illinois—A very artistic woman with a love of Hawaii who passed after a long and difficult illness. Before her illness, she was a skilled artist who painted in oils, a crafter, an employee at J.C. Penney and a teacher of CCD at St. Marcelline’s Church in Schaumburg, IL. She attended Illinois State University before her marriage. She loved crossword puzzles and word finds.

Beloved wife for 52 years of James Thomas Arndt (“Papa” or “Pops”) originally of Chicago, Illinois, married July 2, 1967.

Loving mother of Deborah (Kenneth Leo) Maher of Schaumburg, IL and Michael J.E. Arndt of Hanover Park, IL.

Cherished Grandmother of two grandsons with whom she was very close: Colin James Maher and Orion Michaelson Phillip Arndt, who affectionately called her Mama. Before her illness became too bad, she would teach them crafts, bake and read with them.

Proud grand-daughter of Minna Derdiger-Pritzker.

Dear sister of Sheri (John) Del Sasso and caring Aunt of her nephew Erin Palmer Del Sasso, a Sarasota firefighter, (wife, Tiffany and child, Ella), currently of Florida, and originally from the Chicago area.

She was the adoring niece of her favorite uncle, Stanton “Stan” Derdiger, whom she called “Unc” and who held a special place in her heart.

She is pre-deceased by her truly beloved and adored parents Mildred “Mickey” Beverly Gross (nee Derdiger) (died 2004) and Isadore Meyer “Mike” Gross (died 1971), both originally from Chicago. Ronni missed them terribly after their passing.

Memorial and Services are private. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association in her name. (www.diabetes.org/donate)
