Obituary for Scott Thompson

Scott was born August 27, 1956, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Geraldand Carol (Wentland) Thompson. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1975. Scott married Karen Olsen on May 6, 1978, in Vesper, Wisconsin. He worked as a Flight Center Manager at DuPage Flight Center for 28 years before retiring in 2016.

Dearest to Scott’s heart were his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband and loving father. An outdoorsman, he had a great passion for hunting and fishing. It was on a hunting trip to Wisconsin when they stopped in at the Olsen Farm. This was the first time Scott caught a glimpse of Karen. A few years later they were married on the opening day of fishing season and Scott often commented that she was “the catch of his life.” Scott greatly looked forward to Thanksgiving in Wisconsin and deer hunting with family. An avid fisherman, Scott enjoyed fishing the lakes of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Canada with long-time friend Chuck Allen.

He enjoyed all sports, but was a devoted Cubs fan and even named his black lab “Wrigley.” One of the greatest thrills of Scott’s life was to see his beloved Cubs win the 2016 World Series. Proud of his garden, Scott was known for canning many jars of “Randy’s Salsa” each summer. He was an excellent cook, and anyone who tasted his biscuits and gravy would certainly agree. He believed in enjoying life and was happiest when he was surrounded with his family and friends enjoying good food and a game of cards.

Scott is survived by his loving wife Karen and two beautiful daughters Ashley (Kevin) Sabo of South Elgin, IL and Lindsey (Nick Gray) Thompson of Pingree Grove, IL and his constant companion Wrigley. He is also survived by his mother, Carolyn Yeske, Camdenton, MO; his brother, Guy (Lisa) Thompson, Camdenton, MO and his sister Tracey Yeske, Gilbert, SC.
