Obituary for Sheila McMahon (Burke)

On Thursday, February 18, 2021, Sheila (Burke) McMahon, loving wife, and mother of nine children, passed away at the age of 85.
Sheila was born on Feb 11, 1936, in Chicago, IL, to Michael and Mary (nee McCarthy) Burke. She grew up in the city and attended St. Mel High School. On June 21, 1958, she married Phillip John McMahon and they raised nine children together.
Sheila will be remembered for her unending love and generosity, and her terrific sense of humor. She cherished her family and friends – always there when any of them needed help. She had a great spirit that anyone who met her would remember, and made countless friends in her years working at St. Ann’s and St. Joseph hospitals, Western Electric and the Carol Stream Police Dept. She enjoyed sharing jokes and stories, family fishing trips to Ely, MN, listening to music, dancing with her Irish friends, and was a life-long White Sox and Bears fan. Her “Burke” laugh will bring us joy long after her passing.
Sheila was preceded in death by her father, Michael, her mother, Mary, her sisters, Maureen Prah (James) and Eileen Harth (John), her husband, Phillip, and her son, Sean. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Egan (Tom), her brother, Michael (Susan), her children, Kelley Drozdowski, Phillip Jr. (Jennifer), Sheila Hillier (John), Patrick, Timothy, Terrence, Kathleen, and Michael (Elizabeth), her grandchildren, Emma, Claire, Christopher, Marshall, Grace, Madison and Michael, her best friend, Sharon, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A wake will be held to celebrate Sheila’s life on Wed, Feb 24, and Thu, Feb 25, from 3p-8p at Countryside Funeral Home on 1640 S Green Meadows Blvd, Streamwood, IL 60107. A funeral service will be held on Fri, Feb 26, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Inverness at 10:30a. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. Flowers or donations may be sent to Countryside Funeral Home.
