Obituary for Silvia Valdivia

Our Mom (Silvia) passed away Wednesday March 22 and is now with our Dad (Deodoro) who passed away this past November. Our dearly devoted Mom left behind two sons (Javier and Erik) along with so many extended family members, friends and their families.

Throughout her life Mom never failed to love and care for those around her. Always. If you needed something she would bring it. If you were sick she would help you through whatever you were facing. If she felt you needed a mom, grandma, or friend, she was those people for you out of the love she had and would treat you like one of her own.

At the beginning of March, our Mom was diagnosed with advanced cancer, and faced with an option of chemo and several surgeries, she said no. At 83, she reasoned she had lived long enough and knew our brother and I would be ok. Her mind was good, her heart was right, her decision was final, and asked that we let her go.

Over the few weeks in the hospital and five days in hospice, her family and friends were there for her. For perhaps the first time in her life, people did everything for her. The nurses and doctors, especially in hospice were amazing and made sure she was comfortable as much as they could. And the real blessing was to see all her friends and her extended family now coming and comforting her, visiting in the hospital and those first few days in hospice, and when she could no longer respond, come and pray over her, sing her songs, play music for her. They gave back the love she gave. My brother and I will forever be grateful for how they showed up for our Mom. Silvia was love, sowed love, and reaped love all the way till the end. Love you Mom. See you soon.
