Obituary for Candace Shriver

Candace Lynn Shriver, 45, Loving Mother of Morgan S. Jean, and Beloved Daughter of Michelle L. Devitt and James C. Shriver, passed away at 6:25AM Saturday Morning, while residing at the Alexian Hospice Facility in Elk Grove, Illinois. Candy’s passing followed a very long and trying battle after undergoing major cancer surgery in late January, 2017. There will be a visitation, followed by a memorial service at Countryside Funeral Home, 333 South Roselle Road (1/4 mile south of Irving Park Rd), Roselle, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 3:00PM until time of service 7:00PM.

Candy’s background was very interesting, in that she completely changed the direction of her life, in her last ten years, with her pursuit of an entirely different career path later in her life. After a number of years as a stay-at-home Mom, for Morgan, Candy began the formal study of nursing in 2006 – completing her formal training and becoming a Registered Nurse, in 2006. Within a few years of Candy’s hiring as a registered nurse at a local geriatric medical facility, Candy was promoted to a highly responsible management position with the same medical facility. She held this position and performed very effectively for several years - while simultaneously pursuing her Bachelors degree. Candy recently completed her degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, from the University of Texas, in December, 2016. Immediately prior to her death, Candy, was working as a nursing consultant for a large national medical insurer.

From her Mom’s side of the family, Candy is survived by her Mom, Michelle L. Devitt, and her daughter Morgan S. Jean. Astonishingly, Candy is also survived by her Maternal Grandmother, Margit S. Wagner, who recently celebrated her 96th birthday. Candy is also survived by her four cousins, Wendy Kunisch (Illinois), Wayne Geils (Illinois), Peter Wagner (Texas), and Jonathan Wagner (Texas), and her Aunt, Patricia Urguhart (Illinois), and her Uncle, Joseph E. Wagner (Texas).

From her Father’s side of the family, Candy is survived by her Dad, James C. Shriver, and her four brothers and one sister, Kimberley A. Shriver, James C. Shriver, Jr., Michael J. Shriver, Zachary N. Shriver, (all of Illinois) and the late Corey M. Shriver and her two uncles, Larry S. Shriver (Missouri), and John C. Shriver (Illinois).

Candy is also survived by a large number of friends and admirers - any listing attempt, of which, would be too numerous to successfully compile – and would likely accidentally fail to include too many prominent members of her intimate group. There is no possibility of effectively communicating the level to which Candy will missed by each of us, who loved her beyond any human measure. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Anderson Animal Shelter, www.andersonanimalshelter.org or to Alexian Brothers Hospice, www.alexianbrothershealth.org would be appreciated. 630-529-5751 or www.countrysidefuneralhomes.com
