Obituary for Eileen Neumann

Eileen Catherine Neumann (nee Marsh), 85, of Bartlett previously of Cary and Palatine passed away on December 11, 2016 surrounded by her family. Born in Chicago on December 25, 1930, Eileen is survived by John, her devoted, loving husband of 61 years, her ten adoring children; John (Cindy) Neumann, Cathy (Tom) Kaspar, Gerry, Monica (Mark) Young, Margaret Olis, Anne, Ellen (Ken) Pahlke, Christine (Roger) Aubuchon, Colleen (Jeff) Marwil, Janet (Jim) Reich. She is the cherished grandmother of Tiffany (Jason) Linaman, Danny, Jill (Jay) Baird, Adam, Brian, Rachael, Amanda, Samantha, Anna, Ben, Allison, Sophie, Tyler, Jake, Megan, Andrew, Sarah, Alex, Nathan, Harry, Luke, Lola, and Jackson. Dear great grandmother to Hannah, Soleil, Noah, Nolan, and Savanah. She is also survived by her sister Rosemary (the late Jack) Bauer, brother-in-law Father Al Neumann, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Mary Marsh (nee Foley) and her sister Anna Mae (Warren) Weber.

Eileen shared her Christmas birthday with Jesus and lived her life following his example of serving God and her community. Her deepest values were her loyalty to her husband, children, and grandchildren and to her Catholic faith. The best times of her life are connected to all of these. She loved to pray the rosary and attend mass with John. Like Jesus, she was the most selfless person giving to friends and neighbors in need while juggling a large family and responsibilities. Her conviction to her faith was demonstrated at St. Theresa, where she was integral in the establishment of the Bereavement Ministry. She was also a Minister of Care to the homebound, involved with the Council of Catholic Women, Misericordia Home, CCD teacher, and PADS homeless shelter volunteer. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Resurrection choir and Eucharistic Minister at local nursing homes. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, sacristan and library volunteer at Clare Oaks Retirement Community.
She was a kind, gentle soul who listened more than she spoke. When she did speak, it was with loving, encouraging and profound words with a clever joke thrown in. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always put a big smile on her face. Their visits were made special because she was always able to keep up on details in each one of their lives.

Eileen will be remembered most for her quick Irish wit, challenging game of Scrabble and the soothing sound of her humming.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 17th at 9:00 a.m., immediately followed by 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass at Clare Oaks Retirement Community, Sacred Heart Chapel, 801 Carillon Drive, Bartlett. Interment services will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 800-822-6344 or at www.stjude.org.
