Obituary for Irene Curtis

Irene J. Curtis of Streamwood for 50+ years The funeral for Irene J. Curtis (nee Ladas), will begin with prayers at 9 a.m. Thursday, at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd. (at Barrington Road), Streamwood/Schaumburg, then proceed to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church for a funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Bartlett Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m., with the Trisagion prayer at 4 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Born Feb. 2, 1929, in Toledo, Ohio, she died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, in Streamwood. Irene was the beloved wife of the late Arthur; loving mother of Dean (Susan), Jeff (Carolyn) and Cynthia; cherished grandmother of Matthew (Amy), Emily (fiance Kevin Weber), Noah and Joshua; proud great-grandmother of Luke; and dear sister of the late Charles. Irene was founding member of the 1958 Streamwood "Marching Mothers" protest of a local developer; past president of Hanover Countryside PTA; former member of the Citizens Advisory Board for School District U-46 as well as a "Reading Grandma" for the district; former volunteer for Streamwood Historical Society; and received a volunteerism award from the Cook County Sheriff's Department.
