James T. Butler of Bartlett

Born January 10, 1924 in Chicago, died September 15, 2008 in Hoffman Estates.

Beloved husband of 60 years to Geraldine nee Balster

Loving father of Patricia Butler, James (Sue), Mary (Jeffrey) Gilbert, Tom (Darlene), John (Ann), Kathleen(Pete) Raczynski, Karen (Glen) Luensman, Terry (Eldorado) Wallace and Susan Butler

Cherished grandfather of Edward, Jennifer, Eric and Alyssa Butler, Tamie, Kacey and Cody Luensman, Logan and Ryan Wallace.

Many loving cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to name.

Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Elizabeth Butler, sister Dorothy and brother Frank (Mary Alice).

He was born and raised on the west side of Chicago. A World War II veteran who served in the European Theater of Operations. A member in the 852nd Engineer Battalion (Aviation), building fighter and bomber airdromes in France shortly after Normandy. He earned his MBA from the University of Chicago while working full time and raising his family. After working at a number of companies, both large and small in a variety of capacities from purchasing agent through Vice President of Manufacturing, he and his wife bought a small company of their own, which they operated successfully enough to sell and retire. After they retired, he wrote a book about his time in the Army, which he called “Assault on the Fortress Europa”.

Visitation Friday 4:00 – 8:00 p.m at the Countryside Funeral Home, 950 South Bartlett Rd., (at Stearns Rd.) Bartlett. Funeral Saturday 10:00 a.m. to St. Peter Damian Church. Mass 10:30 a.m. Interment All Saints. 630-289-7575.
