Obituary for Jane Steele

Born April 24, 1932, in Barrington, Jane Hazel Steele (nee Porter) died October 21, 2011 at home with her family, after a long battle with cancer. Jane became a resident of Elgin after marrying her husband Jim of 50 years.

She was the loving mother of James H. and Michael R. (Jodie); Proud grandmother of Mitchell Graham, Colton Michael, and Jenna Carol-Jane; Cherished daughter of Howard and Hazel Porter (nee Kohl); Dear twin sister of John (Marcia) Porter and sister of June (Alvin) Markovitz. She will be missed by her many loving nieces, nephews, friends, relatives and extended family.

Jane was an avid bird feeder and watcher, she loved wildlife. She was a people lover as well, but her family was most important to her. Jane worked at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago as a Registered Infant Nurse, and at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin before she was married and became a wife and mother. While raising her children she worked at Channing Elementary School as a lunch lady for 20 years. A memorial service will be held for Jane at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Audubon Society 5801 North Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60646 would be appreciated. For information (847)289-8054 or www.countrysidefuneralhomes.com
