Laxminarayan Sunkari of Chicago, Illinois passed away on April 26, 2017 in Evanston, Illinois.
Laxminarayan was born in Hyderabad, India on April 10, 1929. He was the second of five children. Both of his parents passed away by the time he was 14 years old, and he began to work in a pharmacy to support his siblings. He later entered a career in nursing and eventually retired as the Superintendent of Nursing at Osmania General Hospital. In 1952, he married his beloved wife Haimavathi (née Thunga). They had three children, Madan Mohan (Sailaja), Srikanth (Praveena), and Saraswathi (Shyam Mohan Puppala). In December 1973, he immigrated to the United States of America and resumed his career to provide a brighter future for his family. His wife and children soon followed him to Chicago, Illinois. His children raised their own families, all settling in the Chicago area. He enjoyed a close relationship with his family, especially with his five grandchildren, Ramana Kumar Puppala (Susmitha), Deepa, Harish Mohan (Kristey), Vinaya Krishna Puppala, and Vikas Mohan (Libby). After many years of service, he retired from his nursing career at Martha Washington Hospital in 1991. During his later years, he studied Hinduism and Vedic scripture intently, reading from the Bhagavad Gita daily. He enjoyed an active and independent lifestyle, and took an active role in managing his condominum association. Most recently, he joyously welcomed the birth of his great-grandson, Ishaan Kumar Puppala.
