Obituary for Mark Budak

Mark Walter Budak, 58, of Schaumburg, IL joined his parents, Robert N. Budak and Leverne Budak (nee Andersen) in heaven on June 7, 2017. He leaves a hole in the hearts of his wife, Susan (nee Weiss) and their son, Robert. Sharing in their grief is his cousin, Kathy Kirk, whom Mark considered a sister, her husband, Greg Landis, their daughter, Anna, and her husband, Derek Brym. Sue’s family—her dad, Robert Weiss, brother Rick, sister Laurie and her husband, Al Martin, will miss Mark at the family celebrations, as will Sue’s niece, Audrey Martin, her wife, Sharon Brosnan, and their children Owen, Reid, and Laine. Aunts Joni Nelson and Barb Budak, Uncle Del Nielsen, and his many cousins will also miss Mark’s smile and twinkling eyes.
Although born on November 18, 1958 in Waterloo, IA, Mark considered himself a Texan. He attended Terrell High School and Texas A&M University (Class of 81, Gig ‘em, Aggies!). He met Sue at a hot-air balloon festival in Norwalk, CT in 1992, and married her in Vail, CO in 1997.
Mark shared his love of computers and engineering through his company, Program to Learn, which provides STEM enrichment classes to children through the local park districts. He valued highly the life-long friends that he made during his career, especially those he met while employed at Edify Corporation and IBM.
Mark will also be missed by the many friends he made through his volunteer work with Boy Scout Troop 297, Cub Scout Pack 397, and the National Ski Patrol units at Villa Olivia and Big Birch.
Although lung transplant is the only cure for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, Mark lost his race to transplant. We take comfort in the fact that in death he was able to help two others on waiting lists through the donation of his kidneys.
Visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 333 S. Roselle Rd. (1/2mile South of Irving Park Rd.), Roselle, with an invitation to share memories beginning at 7:00pm. A funeral mass with be celebrated at St. Marcelline Church, 822 S.
