Ralph W. Kanehl, Sr., 85, of Hanover Park for the past 59 years, retired member of Carpenter's Union No. 58, born in Chicago and passed away peacefully Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Season's Hospice in Naperville. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy H.; loving father of Ralph W. Kanehl, Jr., the late Doreen (Ferd) Van Riet, Cheryl Heric, Patrice (the late Dan, Sr.) Wilson and Michele Kanehl; brother to the late Barbara (late Clark) Christiansen and the late William (Diane) Kanehl. Loving grandfather of Ralph Kanehl, III, Connie (Marlon) Clark, Frank (Teresa) Tripoli, the late Danny Wilson Jr., Dusty (Samantha) Wilson, Valerie (Grant) McHone, Christopher Kanehl, Jessica Hochleutner (Ryan Bostwick), Brandon Kanehl, Mark Hochleutner and Nicholas Kanehl; great grandfather of many.
Ralph worked hard to provide for his family. He was a carpenter by trade and over the years worked his way up to superintendent. His children have fond memories of family camping vacations all over Illinois and Wisconsin. Both Ralph and Dorothy were lovers of animals and their Dogs and Cats were always considered a part of the family.
In retirement Ralph liked to go to Steak 'n Shake with his grandchildren and great grandchildren where he would teach them the art of getting every last drop of a milk shake, slurp, slurp (his favorite flavor being very berry strawberry). The family and extended family made a tradition of having an annual Birthday celebration for his Birthday at Nick's Pizza in Elgin. This became an opportunity for all to join together.
Cremation private at the Countryside Crematory. A private memorial service will be held Thursday, January 14th. Due to the COVID pandemic the family will zoom the memorial service beginning at 12 pm / noon. In lieu of flowers donations to Season's Hospice would be appreciated
