Obituary for Roxy Hess

Roxy Ann Hess (nee Butler), 85, of Streamwood IL, died Saturday, January 14, 2017. Born December 25, 1931 at home in Matheson CO, she grew up on a farm with no electricity or running water. Roxy attended Colorado State College in Greeley CO, was a school teacher in a one room school house in Calhan and then a high school teacher in Ellicott before working as an Administrator at Fort Carson Army base and then as a medical transcriptionist in Elgin IL. She last worked for 25 years for the Securities and Exchange Commission and retired in 1997. She enjoyed golfing, baking, traveling, Scrabble and being with her family. Beloved wife for nearly 50 years of the late John M. Hess, Jr, they were married November 12, 1954 in Colorado Springs CO and resided in Hollidaysburg PA and Colorado Springs before moving to Streamwood in 1968. Loving mother of John M. Hess, III (Lola), Samuel J. Hess (Kate Regan), and Susan M. Tellez (George); cherished grandmother of Kevin, Kelly and Linda Hess; Alex, Andrew, and Ellen Lavigne; Alex and Gabi Tellez. Dear daughter of the late Jesse L. and Alice M. (nee McFetridge) Butler and caring sister of Dean, Kenneth, Norma (Carter), Joyce (Goldsmith) and the late Virgil and Ward Butler. The celebration of Roxy’s life will take place from 6:00-9:00pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 1640 S. Green Meadows Blvd (at Barrington Rd), Streamwood. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am at Willow Creek Community Church, 67 Algonquin Rd, South Barrington to be followed by a luncheon at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, would be appreciated.
